Express Entry

People from all across the globe are welcome to immigrate to Canada in only a few months’ time through the Express Entry immigration selection system. Express Entry to Canada uses a point-based system (also Comprehensive Ranking System) evaluating the applicants and selecting the highest ranking ones from the pool, to apply for Canadian permanent residency. Under the 2021-2023 Canada Immigration Levels Plan, more than a hundred thousand people will be obtaining Canadian permanent residency through Express Entry annually.

Canada Express Entry has become the main principal considering factor of skilled worker immigration to Canada and one of the most popular immigration systems globally. Canadian Express Entry system manages various immigration applications in a short duration of time. A non-resident seeking to live in Canada while working a full-time job, can seek Canadian immigration through one of the three categories of immigration programs.

These three categories vary on the country’s economic basis though. Based on this, one has to see if they meet the requirements of –

     ✓ Federal Skilled Worker 

     ✓ Canadian Experience Class

     ✓ Federal Skilled Trades Programs

If the candidate, in fact, meets the criteria, he can formally request to immigrate and further become a permanent resident of Canada through their Express Entry profile. Once that is done, the candidate’s request is met with a comprehensive scoring on the basis of their work experience, skills, educational qualifications, language proficiency etc. – also called CSR or Comprehensive Ranking System (a point-based system). These pointers are directly based on the factors that can aid a candidate thrive as a migrant in Canada.

The score that is obtained in the CSR decides the candidate’s rank within the pool of candidates waiting to immigrate. Those candidates, who score the highest, are issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) by Citizenship and Immigration Canada for an expedited Canadian immigration and then a permanent residency.

Family Sponsorship

If you are an adult permanent resident or citizen of Canada, you are eligible to apply for The Family Class Sponsorship Program. This program reunites by legally immigrating them to Canada. To be eligible, the family member seeking sponsorship must be a:

  • Spouse, common-law or conjugal partner
  • Dependent child
  • Parent
  • Grandparent
  • Unmarried minor sibling, nephew, niece, or grandchild, whose parents may be deceased.

Also to be eligible for Family Class sponsorship, the sponsor in Canada must be –

  • A citizen or permanent resident of Canada;
  • An adult (18 years or older);
  • Able to provide financial support to their member(s) of family for an extended period of 20 years from the date they become permanent residents.
  • Both the sponsor and their sponsored family member(s) must commit that the sponsor will provide financial support for the sponsored relative, if necessary.
  • Either reside in Canada or prove that you intend to live in Canada when your sponsored relative enters Canada.

Spouse Sponsorship

If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident and you want to sponsor your partner to come to Canada and live permanently, Spousal Sponsorship is how you can do that. And the good news is, being part of Family Class Immigration, Canada always gives top priority to applications for spousal sponsorship.

It takes at least 12 months to process the sponsorship applications from beginning to end. The sponsorship applications can also take longer than 12 months, depending on the nature of your case. 

One of the prerequisites to obtain Spousal Sponsorship in Canada is that you have to be able to give proof of your relationship with your partner.

Requirements to Sponsor Spouse in Canada

You can sponsor your spouse or partner given that you fulfill the following criteria:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must either be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, or even a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
  • You must have proof stating that, for reasons other than disability; you are not receiving any social assistance.
  • You can support your spouse or partner financially and ful-fill their basic needs while in Canada.
